Can a widower keep his dying wife's last wish?

Snuggle up with a cup of tea and a
heart-warming holiday read from
Amanda McIntyre

Widowed Irishman, Brady McCormick made a promise to his young wife the day she died--to bring their son to America and begin a new life in the land of opportunity. Living in charity with a distant uncle in New York, barely scraping by, Brady is unsure he will be able to uphold the promise, much less quell the loneliness, until an angel appears at the docks, Saran Reichardt.

Headstrong and tenacious, gentlewoman Saran knows she's unlike most women of society. Dedicated to teaching and helping the impoverished, she has no need of a man to take care of her, but an accidental encounter with a stormy-eyed Irish immigrant and his young son changes her perception of what need really is. Will this holiday give them both the hope and faith they desire or will their own stubbornness keep them apart?

1857 passage from Ireland to New York
"Is it far to Uncle Stephen’s flat, Da?" Brady glanced down at his ten-year-old son through bleary eyes.  They’d been crammed like sardines in the bowels of the merchant ship for weeks unable to go topside due to trade regulations.  It had taken most of their savings to attain passage from Ireland to the Americas.
"Tis not far, as I’ve been told.  Your Mother's Uncle is very gracious to take us in.  We should be grateful for his kindness."  Brady raised his chin over the sea of disembarking passengers—most immigrants like him and Danny.  They carried few possessions, if any, wrapped in crude knapsacks or rolled blankets like he and his son.
"Da, do you miss Ma?"  His son, straightened his tweed cap, knocked askew by a passerby.
Brady’s heart twisted with fresh grief.  His Mary Margaret had taken ill two years before they were to set sail for the Americas.  It was in the few months before their dreams were to come true that she took a turn for the worse, not long after, she died in her sleep.  The doctor attributed it to her body simply weakening from the virus over a period of time.
They’d known each other since they were children skipping stones along the pond bridging the properties of the family farms.
One of the last moments of bliss he remembered with his wife before her illness worsened played teasingly in his mind.  He could still recall how the pal moonlight shone a swatch of shimmering light across the bed they’d shared for nigh on to eleven years.
"Think of Christmas in the Americas, Brady.  Can you imagine?  I’ve heard no one starves there, and everyone lives in their own flat."
Her gentle sigh, as always made him smile.  He stroked her fiery auburn curls, by day coiled in a soft halo about her head, but at night set free to tumble luxuriously over her shoulders.  Even now, his hands ached for the loss of not being able to brush her hair each night.
Brady knew her chances of actually seeing the passage through to the end were slim; still he hesitated to let her know that he’d already reconsidered the journey in lieu of staying in Ireland.
"Promise me this, Brady."
Her voice, even weak, held an authoritative tone.  He’d always teased her about being too bossy.
"What is it, my love?  You’ll be in need of that new wardrobe before we take passage?  Or is it the spinning wheel to be mended before we give it to your sister?"
"None of those, Brady."
She sighed again, giving him a half-hearted slap to his bare chest.  Her palm, small and warm, lay exactly where it always lay after they made love.
"Then what is your wish, my dear wife?  And since it is nearly the holidays, I suggest you choose your words carefully."
"Aye, "she whispered.  "Truly, it is my fondest wish."
"Then pray woman, tell me before the dawn rises."
"Promise me that you’ll take Danny to America, no matter what happens."
Brady kissed the top of his young wife’s hair hoping to quell her concerns as well as his own.  The thought of losing Mary Margaret was inconceivable.
"And one more promise…"
Chilly fingers of dread tickled Brady’s neck.  "What is that, love?"
"That you will marry again.  You are much too young and Danny will need a mother."
Brady drew her tight to his chest.  "Hush, Margaret.  Tis a bad omen to speak like this, you and I--together--will be taking out son to America."
"Aye, I know tis our plan Brady, but promise me anyway."
"I cannot promise such a thing Margaret.  You’ve no right to ask such foolishness."
"Is it not foolish to hide the facts, Brady McCormick?"

"These are not facts, Mary Margaret, but fearful musings and I insist that they stop."  He rested his chin in the warmth of her hair.  "I will promise that we will make this journey--together."

The days are a bit cooler and the leaves are beginning to turn. Autumn is here and I'm not entirely sure where summer went...

Looking back, there were many special moments, stretching as far back as late Spring when I once more visited one of my favorite cities--NEW ORLEANS.
While seeing old friends and meeting new readers is one of the loveliest things about this convention, this year I took a little time to tromp around this gorgeous city where the people are down-home friendly, the food is amazing, and everywhere you turn is dripping with history!

I finally can scratch off St Louis Cemetery #1 off my bucket list! My fascination with headstones and cemeteries is something few know about me. (Now Monica, Kimberly, and Meeca know!) These hallowed grounds represent so much of who were are/were as a people--far beyond the spiritual realm they delve into tradition, family, wealth, status. I guess we all want to be remembered for something.
Walking the French Quarter with Dave and CH Admirand, , visiting the various shops and restaurants, strolling the boardwalk, and seeing Pirates Alley--getting book recommendations from shopkeepers, and a day of touring plantations along the river with my buddy, Sharon Murphy and being treated to our tour guides rendition of "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte"  At Houmas House Plantation still brings "goosies " to my arms!

In June, we were able to round up the whole family and visit Orlando Disney! It was the first time in 17 years we'd all been on vacation together ! We had a great time, bringing away many cherished memories that we have in a very special two edition set of bound books made by our children of that trip!

In August, I flew to Washington DC to spend time with good friend, Sahara Kelly and take my first Amtrak ride from there to Charlotte, NC. What a delightful trip! I'm sold on trains! In Charlotte I experienced my first AUTHORS AFTER DARK convention. Smaller in scale, it is a great venue for authors and readers to really experience one on one time together. I loved seeing so many old friends, and one of its highlights was getting to meet a few of my street team members as well as a dear friend I met years ago online when I started with Harlequin Spice. One of the sweetest women you'll ever meet, it was like meeting a long-lost sister. She and her husband were so kind and wonderful to stop through Charlotte on their way back home. Special moments like this were at every turn it seemed--

Now we're heading into fall! With the change of seasons, I thought it was time to re-release the first book in my Shores of Mackinac series-Look for TIDES OF AUTUMN coming late October!! A story about second chances, betrayal and intrigue! Set on magnificent Mackinac Island, I wanted to give my new readers a chance to read this story that I so love!

RENEGADE HEARTS is also in the works! Dalton Kinnison is the third Kinnison brother and by far, the most stubborn and feisty! What's it going to take to tame this renegade? The answer just might surprise you! Watch for RENEGADE HEART in early 2015!

Until next time~

"This is an erotic thriller and one of the best historical romances I've read in a long time. It had everything I could ask for-a strong female lead, suspense, intrigue, a dominant leading man used to being in control and a LOT of heat!"

An artist at heart, I am a visual writer and for each book I write I build a storyboard of sorts with character pics, settings, buildings, scenes...
Each day I'll be sharing a few here while on the tour!

Randolph shoved his shoulder against the heavy door. Rusted from weather, its hinges squawked loudly as the door swung open and Randolph stepped inside the dimly lit hall. A series of tunnels snaked below the hospital, leading to the boiler room, storage, and the morgue. He held out his hand and took Jane’s, drawing her inside. He saw her grimace from the acrid stench. “I’m sorry, the only ventilation comes from just above.” He pointed to the small oval metal grids built into the foundation.

Paned gas lamps illuminated the narrow corridor, casting odd shadows against the ghastly water-stained walls. “You’re quite sure you still wish to go through with this?” He offered her his kerchief to cover her nose. She accepted it and nodded.

Unable to walk side by side, he walked ahead of her, hoping this exercise would be enough to quell her curiosity. Then again, his similar plan to use shock and fear hadn’t worked at the manor. He didn’t adhere to the idea that the person sending her notes and the embankment murders were related—or frankly, she’d be dead. His experience told him that whomever committed these heinous crimes had no soul. He was a pathological killer with no time for petty infatuations.

Still, she needed to see that this was no game. Randolph would make sure of it. A visit to his world, where grisly remains had to be inspected, where grieving families must be told that their loved ones were dead, robbed, beaten. She’d witness firsthand this grim task of watching good people fall apart, lost in the absence of answers, unable to understand why. He wanted to impress on Jane the truth of reality and make her see the horror of it, not just some idealized journalistic quest in her head.

Rustler's Heart

(The Kinnison Legacy Series, bk 2)

by Amanda McIntyre

Orphaned by tragedy, Rein Mackenzie was taken in by his benevolent uncle at the Kinnison ranch alongside two others abandoned at a young age. Now, he and his 'brothers' carry on Jed Kinnison's dream of making the ranch a haven for those who need hope. But when a woman arrives claiming to be related to the Kinnisons, she brings danger-not only to his heart, but to those he calls family.

Liberty's presence is a surprise to the family she's never met, and while she yearns to belong, she knows her presence is a reminder of their painful past. Fearless, she dives in, losing her heart to the ranch, to the community, and to an unexpected summer fling.

But when dangers from her past catch up to her, they may cost her everyone and everything she has come to love.

Excerpt 1

“Here let me take that,” he offered and reached for her

“Thanks.” She relinquished it to him. He did a double
take when he caught the flash of silver on her tongue.

“Uh, are you hungry?” This young lady was just full of
surprises. “It’s about an hour back to the ranch. We can probably find
someplace that stays open all night.” Preferably, drive-through he thought,
hoping to avoid curious onlookers.

“I’m famished,” she said as she struggled free of her

Rein dropped her bag in the back of the truck and waited
to assist her into the truck His eyes fell to her backside bent over the front
seat and what was left of her black mini skirt and spandex leggings. She was
plenty tall, given that her legs looked to be a mile long in that outfit. She
stuffed her coat up into the cab and jerked down her black hoody sporting a
Guns & Roses insignia across the back. He caught just a flash of skin above
her waistband, enough to make him feel guilty for wanting to see if she bore
any tattoos. He’d bet money that she had one, if not more. First impression,
she looked like the lead in an R-rated vampire slayer movie.

“Be careful, watch your step.” He gave himself a mental
slap and hurried forward to help her in the cab.

She gingerly grabbed the bar and hauled herself up
gracefully into the seat.

“Did you happen to get my text messages?” he asked.

“Nope, I’m afraid not.”

“Is there someone back home that needs to know you’re

“No, there isn’t.” She narrowed her gaze on him. “Mr.
Mackenzie, in case you hadn’t noticed, I’m not twelve years old.”

As if he needed to be reminded of the interest she
sparked in him. He brushed it off as her eccentricity.

“Right.” He shut the door, fished for his iPhone, and
frantically texted Wyatt as he walked around to the driver’s side. He wanted to
make damn sure they were awake when they arrived back at the ranch.

“Going to stop for a bite to eat, then head home.” He
paused at the door and rubbed his hand over his mouth, a nervous habit when he
found himself perplexed by something. With a sigh, he climbed into the truck
and busied himself with his seat belt.

“Who were you texting?” she queried.

“Wyatt. Just to let him know you were safe and sound with

“He was worried? That’s such a big brother thing to do,
how cute.” She grinned. “By the way, my name is Liberty…Liberty Belle.”

Rein glanced at the young woman who looked tough enough
to spit nails. “No last name, or is it Belle?”

Her mascara-laden, coffee-colored eyes met his. She wore
far too much in his opinion. But he had to give her credit, while the overall
effect was a little dark, no…make that a lot dark, it was oddly sexy…on her.
Rein batted away the silly notion. What? Sexy? Where’d that
come from?

“No, Belle is my stage name. I’m Liberty Stenapoulas.”

He considered pursuing the topic of her vocations, but
backed off deciding that it was late, he was too tired and even though she
wasn’t twelve, she was nonetheless Wyatt and Dalton’s baby sister. Even though
she appeared to have walked out of some late night horror flick. He kept his
focus straight ahead and debated the myriad of questions that had popped up in
his brain.

“Hey, are you okay?” She leaned toward him and searched
his face. “Are you sure you know how to get us out of here?”

Rein blinked, snapping out of his reverie. He started up
his truck with a mighty roar and shifted into gear. He knew easily how get them
out of there with no trouble. But more to the point, what kind of trouble was
he bringing home to the Last Hope Ranch?

Excerpt 2

“I don’t have any issues with your sister, Dal, I just can’t
let her push my buttons.”

He started down the lane.

“Absolutely bro, unless you happen to like it.”

Rein stopped and looked over his shoulder, the flashlight
illuminated Dalton’s wide smile.

“For the record, I don’t.”

His brother shrugged. “Just sayin.’ Seems like you two spend
an awful lot of time sparrin’ with each other.”

“You’ve had too many beers.” Rein waved away the comment. He
didn't want to think any more about this tonight. He wanted to lose himself in
his work. Do something constructive. Blow off some steam.

“I only had two and I've got eyes, Rein. Not sure what you
think, but I can tell when a woman is interested in a guy.”

He refused to entertain the thought. Not tonight. “I’m going
down to cabin three and do some work.”

“Hey, Rein, for the record. You should stop up to Betty's
and see what she's done with the place. New uniforms, new menu, looks pretty
good. Liberty has quite a talent.”

“I’m sure she did a fine job.”

“You know, you can be as hard-headed as her.”

“Kiss my ass, Dalton. See you in the morning.”

“Sweet dreams, bro. I’ll be up here in civilization, if you
need me.”

He was in no mood to tolerate Dalton’s teasing. Rein trudged
past her cabin, jerking his gaze away when he saw her pass by the window. She
might well be talented in many ways, but the woman was trouble, a free spirit.
She did not intend to stick around and that theoretically should please him,
but it only frustrated him more. Dammit. He wasn't a loner like Wyatt. He was
good with people, had friends. Maybe seeing Caroline again, realizing how
enamored he’d once been of her, made him realize he wasn't ready yet for that
type of commitment. Hell, maybe that was the one thing he and Liberty had in
common. He had goals, his Uncle’s dream to finish. She wanted to start a new
life. Neither of them appeared to want any strings.

And that scared the hell out of him.
